Macaroni Soup with Croutons

Salam all,

Just trying out the new interface. I'm not sure why, but I dont quite like it. Perhaps it takes more time for me to adapt to the new UI. What worries me most as I failed to update the blog using my new gadget. Anyway, lets share what we had for dinner last night. It's macaroni soup with croutons.

Thinking what to cook is always a problem. A quick survey (asking the two kids at home), landed me with the idea of making macaroni soup. And since Hakim likes croutons so much, I decided to serve it with croutons.

Mee Goreng Ibu

Salam all,

Thinking about what's for dinner is always not my favorite things to do.
Especially when eating out is not an option. On one wonderful Sunday I opt for a mee (yellow noodle) goreng. Since I prepared it, I called it 'Mee Goreng Ibu' nothing resembles the famous Mee Goreng Mamak.

Mee Goreng Ibu

The Ingredients:

Yellow noodle 1 packet
Minced meat
Prawns
2 tablespoon of chilli paste
2 tablespoon of tomato ketchup
2 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
Vegies
salt to taste
shallots and garlic
cooking oil
Tauhu and basil - for garnishing (add taste too)

My method:
  • Fry the shallots and garlic in 2 tablespoon cooking oil till fragrant or brownish
  • Add the minced meat, chilli paste, tomato ketchup and dark soy sauce. You may add some water to let the meat tender
  • Add the prawns (I add it later because I dont want it to be over cooked)
  • Add salt and sugar to taste
  • Add vegies and the yellow noodles. Mixed well.
  • And ready to be served.
Optional: To add the taste it is best to add 1 beaten egg. I did not add egg as my dear Sabrina is allergy to it.

Note: Kalau nak bagi jadi macam mee goreng mamak, jangan lupa masukkan taugeh (which my kids hate the most) dan bahan-bahan tu dibiarkan agak hangit sedikit sebelum masukkan mee. Tapi jangan hangit betul2 .... agak2 je lah

Adios .... Wassalam.

Thirst quenching drink

Salam all,

Thirsty anybody?
What is this ? Is it Bandung drink? No, it is strawberry lassi.

Atikah likes to make this. It really reminds me of her. And for all you know, like a telepathic, the phone suddenly rang and it was her calling from Dungun. after a chat with her l continued my quest.

It's a pretty simple task and requires very minimal ettort.

what you need are:-
a handful of strawberries (I used about 10 small strawberries)
some fresh milk
2 tablespoon sugar
5-6 ice cubes
you may add yogurt if you like

Put everything into the blender and blend till fine. Ready to be served.
Yummy, yummy.

Wassalam.

Roti Benggali

Salam all,

How about a "ROTI BENGGALI" for dinner tonight?

I've been longing to eat the roti benggali. However, it's not so easy to find one here in Shah Alam. Making one is the solution. A google search for a "Roti Benggali" landed me to two cooking blogs: tiffinbiru.blogspot belongs to the famous Cik Mat Gebu and the other is the Baby.... Both provided me with an almost similar recipe.

The recipe is as follows:

The ingredients:
(A)
350 gm bread flour
1table spoon shortening (l used butter)
A pinch of salt

(B)
Lukewarm water (120-160ml or 220ml) - different measurements from two different different recipies. l used 200ml and found it a little too soft.
1 tablespoon yeast (mauripan)
2 tablespoon coarse sugar

How to:
1. Mix (B) together. Put aside.
2. Mix (A) till mixed.
3. Slowly add (B) mixture into (A).
4. Knead well until it form a dough. Put aside and let it rise to doubled.
5. Once doubled, punch and knead the dough again to remove any trapped air.
6. Divide the dough into three portions. Put it into a 7 X 4 bread pan. Let it rise for 10 to 20 minutes.
7. Bake in a preheated oven, 175 degree celcius for about 20 minutes.

And this is how we consume our roti benggali - eat it with the fish curry made earlier for lunch.

Enjoy.

Wassalam.
